REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Susi Pudjiastuti said that she accepted the position of the marine affairs and fisheries minister because of the work pattern offered to her by President Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi.
"Had it not been for Jokowi's work pattern, I wouldn't have accepted his offer to become the minister of marine affairs and fisheries," Pudjiastuti stated during the Chief Editors Meeting here on Friday (7/11).
According to her, President Jokowi was eager to see a change consistent with the phrase "work, work and work" that he uttered during his inaugural address.
Pudjiastuti noted that the president also wished for marine products to be used as much as possible for the betterment of fishermen because some 80 percent of them were still below the poverty line.
She further pointed out that a lot of issues that need to be ironed out were identified in the marine and fisheries sector. Therefore, President Jokowi wants to greatly improve it.
Earlier, the minister of marine affairs and fisheries admitted that she was initially worried that she would not be able to keep up with the performance of the other ministers in Jokowi's working cabinet.
"From the beginning, I was afraid that I could not match the performance of other ministers in the cabinet," Pudjiastuti remarked during an audience with numerous entrepreneurs at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) building on Thursday (November 6).
The minister acknowledged that her educational experience was the least when compared to that of other ministers in the cabinet.
Moreover, she also did not expect to be part of the cabinet initially, but greatly appreciates President Jokowi now for daring to appoint her as a minister.
Furthermore, the Chairman of Kadin, Suryo Bambang Sulisto, expressed his appreciation of Pudjiastuti because Kadin was the first institution she visited as a minister.
Sulisto also recognized that the new government under the leadership of President Jokowi was paying special attention to the marine and fisheries sector.
