REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Abraham Samad has said President Joko Widodo must choose a person with the highest integrity and morality as attorney general.

"Choose the one with integrity and morality," he stated after attending a workshop on "Coordination of the supervision of corruption prevention" at City Hall here on Thursday.

He added that morality and integrity could be assessed by looking at a person's track record.

The person, who would be finally chosen for the post, must not be associated with any legal case and must be clean, he said, adding there were a lot of figures who were clean and upright.

When asked about candidates for the post, the KPK chief declined to divulge any name, saying it was the prerogative of the President.

However, he noted, the KPK would be ready to track the background of candidates if it received such a request.

Until now, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), who was inaugurated on October 21, has not chosen any person for the attorney general's post. The former attorney general resigned when the previous government's term ended.

Deputy attorney general Andhi Nirwanto is currently heading the Attorney General Office.

Based on the Constitutional Court's ruling in 2010, the post of an attorney general is equal to a cabinet member and therefore his term expires with the end of the term of a president.
