REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Newly-inducted Minister for Social Affairs Khofifah Indar Parawansa revealed that she had no special programs to implement during her first 100 days in office.

"We will align and work on the existing programs," Khofifah noted after she was officially handed over the post by her predecessor Salim Segaf Al Jufri here on Tuesday.

Former social affairs ministers Justika Baharsyah and Bachtiar Chamsyah were also present during the ceremony.

Khofifah stated that the ministerial post is a mandate and great responsibility.

The newly appointed social affairs minister said she will soon work with the coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs to chalk out programs to mark the Heroes Day, which falls on November 10.

"According to the president's instruction to work, work, and work, we will commence work immediately," she stated.

Khofifah replaced Salim Segaf Al Jufri as social affairs minister in the United Indonesia Cabinet II of the government of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono from 2009 to 2014.

Born in Surabaya, East Java, on May 19, 1965, Khofifah is currently the chief of the woman's branch of the country's Islamic organization, Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). She was nominated for East Java governorship in 2013 but lost to Soekarwo.

Khofifah held the post of state minister for woman empowerment and child protection during the leadership of late president Abdurrahman Wahid from October 26, 1999 to August 9, 2001.

She was also the former chief of the National Family Planning Coordinating Board from 1999 to 2001 and the chief of the House Commission VII from 2004 to 2006.
