REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The new government under President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is expected to be more serious in the development of the fishery sector.
"We strongly hope that development of the fishery sector especially fish breeding farms would be given full attention by the government as well as the private sector," Director General; of fish breeding farms Slamet Soebjakto said here on Tuesday (21/10).
Slamet Soebjakto said fish breeding farms are expanding rapidly, pointing for production which grew 30 percent annually during the 2009-2013 period.
Improvement is also recorded in the quality of the country's fish products, he said.
He said the fish breeding farm directorate general plans to accelerate development integrated fishery industry strengthening upstream and downstream production connection.
Earlier, Indonesian Association of Traditional Fishermen (KNTI) asked for support from the government of President Jokowi to strengthen organization of traditional fishermen to face the impact of liberalization.
"Jokowi has interest in offering support for traditional fishermen in facing the liberalization trend all over Indonesia," chairman of KNTI M Riza Damanik said.
Jokowi has spoken much about development of the marine and fishery sector.
