REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) here on Friday questioned former CEO of state-owned bank PT Mandiri Zulkifli Zaini as witness for the graft suspect and former treasurer of Democrat party, Muhammad Nazaruddin.

The KPK investigators had earlier questioned Democrat party's Chief of Youth and Sports Division, Munadi Herlambang, who claimed that suspect Nazaruddin had availed a special credit facility from Bank Mandiri.

"Nazaruddin got Rp40 billion credit from Bank Mandiri in 2011, wherein he did not have to pay that amount of money to the bank. Of course, there had to be high-ranking officials from the State-owned Enterprises Ministry and Mandiri Bank who were involved in this case," Munadi stated.

Former Democrat Party's treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin had been named suspect in a money laundering case involving the purchase of shares worth Rp300.8 billion of the national flag carrier PT Garuda Indonesia.

The KPK spokesman Johan Budi stated that Nazaruddin was named suspect following investigations into a bribery case dealing with the construction of a hotel for athletes in Jakabaring, South Sumatra, in which Nazaruddin had been named a defendant.

Johan remarked that the purchase of PT Garuda Indonesia's stocks by Nazaruddin came to light after witnesses, Yulianis and Oktarina Furi, who were former employees of Nazaruddin, confirmed it during the trial.

He revealed that Nazaruddin had allegedly bought the shares of PT Garuda Indonesia using the money he had received in the athletes' hotel construction project in South Sumatra and the special credit he had earlier received from Mandiri Bank.

During the trial, Yulianis disclosed that Nazaruddin had bought the stocks for Rp300.8 billion.
