The Foundation hosts Batik exhibition

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian First Lady, Ani Yudhyono attended the National Batik Day and visited the exhibition at Ministry of Industry in Jakarta on Thursday. Various ancient batiks, which have many colors and patterns are displayed there.

"The ancient batik originated from several collectors and 10 of them came from Indonesian Batik Foundation," Committe Chairman of Batik Cultural Heritage Exhibition VII, Rosati Kadarisma said on Thursday.

Batik Day Celebration is based on Presidential Decree No. 33/2009, which set October 2 as Batik Day. Batik has became a masterpiece of the oral and intangible cultural heritage of Indonesia.

Ministry of Industry and Indonesian Batik Foundation held a Batik Exhibition from September 30 to October 3. This event also featured batik from several ancient kingdoms in Indonesia, such as Ngayokyakarta Sultanate, Pakualaman Temple, Mangkunagaran Temple, Surakarta Hadiningrat Sultanate.

There also present 54 batik artisans and batik fashion show by eight famous fashion designers. Although most prominent in Java, other areas in Indonesia also have different interpretations of batik, such as Sumatra, Kalimantan and Bali.
