REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA LUMPUR -- A biographical movie showcasing Soekarno, Indonesia's founding father, has garnered positive response from the public in Malaysia, including some of the country's eminent figures.
Among those present during the movie screening here on Sunday (September 28) were former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohammad and his wife Siti Hasmah Mohammad Ali along with the country's Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Herman Prayitno, the embassy's staff members, the ambassadors of several friendly countries, and Indonesians residing in Malaysia were also present for the movie's premiere.
After the screening, Mahathir Mohammad appreciated the movie, which he felt had managed to successfully capture and shed light on Soekarno's struggles for the country and his personal life.
Hanung Bramantyo, the film director, expressed pride on having received positive response and appreciation from the public who came to see the movie.
He revealed that the movie, which took two years to complete, got positive response from the moviegoers in every country where the movie had, so far, been screened.
"I do hope that the people from outside Indonesia such as Malaysia, Italy, Africa, China, Vietnam, and Vatican can accept and enjoy this movie," Bramantyo affirmed.
Raam Punjabi, the producer of this movie, and some supporting actors and actresses such as Ario Bayu who played Soekarno; Maudy Koesnadi who played Sokarno's second wife, Inggit Garnasih; and Tika Bravani who played Soekarno's third wife, Fatmawati, also attended the premiere.
"Soekarno" was screened for the first time across Indonesian cinemas in December 2013, despite objections raised by Soekarno's daugther, Rachmawati Soekarnoputri.
