University of Indonesia holds an event 'Wayang Goes to Campus'

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- University of Indonesia (UI) through Community of Puppet (Wayang) held an event 'Puppet Goes to Campus 2014' themed 'Puppet and Leadership' to preserve traditional culture. This event will take place on September 23-27 at Campuss Hall in Depok, West Java.

There are various activities, such as puppet show and exhibition, gatherings, workshop and bazaar. Some famous puppet masters, such as Ki Manteb Soedharsono, Ki Begug Poernomosidi and junior puppet master, De Tira (Yudistira Manunggaling Rahmaning Hurip) will participate in this event.

"In a workshop, we will raise topics in context of Indonesian puppets, also puppet and national security," Head of UI's communication Office, Farida Haryoko said in a press release on Wednesday.

At bazaar areas, visitors can see various national craft products, such as emboss puppets, plastic puppets and others. The exhibition will display many collections of traditional puppets, keris exhibition and precious stones, as well as painting exhibition in the Archipelago.

In the last day, there will be the Wonogiri puppet performances hosted by six puppet masters in a single stage, namely Ki Begug Poernomosidi, Ki Widodo Wilis, Ki Sura Agul Agul, Ki Eka Sunarsono, Ki Sigit Mursita and Ki Narta Guna Wiyono. Indonesia's shadow puppet (wayang kulit) has been recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on November 7, 2003.
