REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Bank plans to raise Automated Teller Machine (ATM) transaction charges next month. It will be implemented in all ATM networks, including ATM Bersama and ATM Prima in Indonesia.

Bank Indonesia (BI) asked banks to put transparency about the new cost. Executive Director of Payment System Policy and Oversight Department in BI, Rosmaya Hadi said that ATM transaction charges in Indonesia was set by banking industry.

"They only should report us. The cost must be transparent," Hadi said on Monday.

ATM charges have not been increased in the last 10 years, while operating cost have increased. BI deputy governor, Ronald Waas said that the new charges should not burden consumers. BI does not regulate ATM transaction charges, like Australian banks.
