REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GORONTALO -- An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter Scale rocked the city of Gorontalo , northern Sulawesi on Tuesday, but no immediate report of casualty and damage to property.

The quake hit at 10.46 local time causing panic among the people in the city .

"I was shocked . The tremors were so strong though not long," Nayla, a student of a local university , said.

Other people rushed out of their houses or other buildings in panic.

The meteorology office said the epicenter of the quake was 131 kilometers southeast of Bolaang Mongondow in North Sulawesi or on the border of Gorontalo at depth of 10 kilometers.
