S Kalimantan to focus in developing tourism areas

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANJARMASIN -- Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) of South Kalimantan assessed that local government in districts and cities in the province should work together to develop the economic potential in tourism and creative sector. Chairman of Commission II DPRD of South Kalimantan, Muhammad Ihsanudin said that the province should learn from Yogyakarta.

"We should learn from Yogyakarta. South Kalimantan has the potential in developing tourism villages, especially in several districts or cities," Ihsanudin said on Monday.

The politician of Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) explained that Yogyakarta could establish its tourism areas in line with development of 100 tourism villages in the province. The villages facilitate the development of creative economy in region.

Several representatives of South Kalimantan has visited Yogyakarta on September 1-3, 2014 to learn about tourism and creative economy.

South Kalimantan at least has 12 popular tourism destinations, such as Meratus Mountain, Banjarmasin Floating Market, Loksado Bamboo Rafting, Lok Baintan Floating Market, Sungai Kambang rafting, Duta Mall Banjarmasin, Al-Karomah Great Mosque, Banjarmasin Zoo, Angsana Beach, Cahaya Bumi Selamat shopping centers, Murdjani Field and Wadai Banjar.
