S Sulawesi, S Africa to cooperate in education and economy

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- The administration of South Sulawesi and the government of South Africa will strengthen cooperation, especially in the areas of education and economy.

"South Africa and South Sulawesi share a good relationship since a long time. This is the time to enhance the relations into cooperation. Some programs that will be implemented are in the areas of education and economy," Ambassador of South Africa to Indonesia Augustine Sifuba stated after meeting Vice Governor of South Sulawesi Agus Arifin Nu'mang here on Monday.

She explained that the initial step in increasing educational cooperation is by involving the universities of both countries.

"Universities in South Africa and South Sulawesi may exchange students and academicians," Ambassador Agustine affirmed.

Meanwhile, in the economic field, South Africa is keen to improve trading ties with the province.

The vice governor of South Sulawesi has welcomed South Africa's initiative to establish cooperation in these areas.

Agus stated that some universities in South Sulawesi have worked with the international community and have organized exchange programs for students and academicians with several countries.

"So, we are open for such cooperation with South Africa," he noted.

In the field of economy, Agus explained that South Africa will organize a seminar in Jakarta to showcase its potentials.

Regarding the event, the ambassador has invited South Sulawesi's businessmen to participate in the seminar.

"This is an opportunity for them to explore the potentials of South Africa," Agus added.
