REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Comission (KPK) continues to follow the corruption case involving Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik. However, Wacik still can be a member of the House of Representatives as he has been elected in previous legislative election for period 2014-2019.
KPK spokesman, Johan Budi said that the case, which involved Wacik in the Ministry had no connection to his position as the House member. KPK said that it was the authority of General Election Commission (KPU) and the House. However, Budi hopes that the inaguration will be cancelled.
"I think that he does not deserve to sit in Parliament, especially when he would take the oath of office under a suspect status," Budi said on Thursday.
After the arrest on Wednesday, KPK will conduct three more steps. First, they will send a letter to Directorate General of Immigration about travel abroad prevention. Second, KPK will request an audit reports to the Indonesian Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (INTRAC). Third, KPK will carry out assets tracing.
Wacik became a suspect of corruption cases related to the procurement project at the ministry in 2011-2013. He is alleged to have carried out a mark up fund in the Ministry worth 9.9 billion IDR.
