High-ranking Indonesian army officer visits Thailand

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANGKOK -- Indonesia's Ninth Regional Military Command commander Udayana Maj Gen Wisnu Bawa Tenaya is officially visiting Thailand. He arrived yesterday and will depart tomorrow.

Maj Gen Wisnu Bawa Tenaya paid a courtesy call on Lt Gen Thirachai Nakwanich, Commander of the First Army Region at First Army Region headquarters in Bangkok today.

During the three-day visit, the Indonesian general is scheduled to visit several divisions at Royal Thai Army headquarters and observe military activities of the royal guards, the three-dimensional operation-units and the border defense forces.

The visit is part of this year's military officer exchange programme to further enhance military cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand.

Lt Gen Thirachai and his guest also discussed further military cooperation between the two nations.

The Thai general explained Thailand's current situation to the visitor to create mutual understanding with the neighbouring country, in accordance with a policy of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).
