REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) announced on Wednesday that Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik became a suspect of corruption cases related to the procurement project at the ministry in 2011-2013. Deputy Chairman of KPK, Zulkarnain said that KPK had issued a warrant investigation on September 2 for Wacik.
According to other Deputy Chairman of KPK Bambang Widjojanto, there is no political problem in determination of Wacik as a suspect. Wacik is alleged to have carried out a mark up fund in his Ministry.
"The value is 9.9 billion IDR. He is charged under Article 12e of Law No. 20/2011," Widjojanto said on Wednesday.
According to Widjojanto, Wacik asked his officials to increase the operational expenses in the Ministry, the increase in revenue, consulting services and partner funds. However, all of them were fictitious. This is considered as authority abuse committed by Wacik.
The investigation in Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is the development of previous investigation on former Secretary General of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Waryono Karno. Chairman of KPK, Abraham Samad said that the Commission had indicated an extortion practise in several projects in the Ministry.
