REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Indonesian Telecommunication Regulatory Body (BRTI) Commissioner Nonot Harsono has expressed hope that the President-elect Joko Widodo and Vice President-elect and Jusuf Kalla would accelerate development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure.
Speaking during a book review on Telecommunication for National Prosperity on Wednesday, Harsono stated that the Jokowi-JK government should systematically speed up the development of ICT infrastructure before developing internet-based governance system (e-government).
"The new government's vision to make ICT as the backbone for national economic development, public and government information service, and improvement in national productivity and efficiency should be fully supported," he noted.
According to him, national ICT infrastructure development remains unclear as there has yet to be a clear segregation of roles between the state-owned telecommunication companies and private companies, and the stages of ICT development for business and industry, government, and outlying areas in Indonesia.
"Even as of now, there have not been enough guidelines in place to manage the relations between business players, and the concept of how to implement partnership between the government and private sectors," he pointed out.
Harsono remarked that the new government would improve public services and the government system based on ICT. "Systematic infrastructure and good governance are needed to build e-government, e-budgeting, e-procurement, e-education, and other things," he pointed out.
