REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- As the hajj funds collected so far amount to Rp80 trillion, the House will soon finalize a law that will mandate the establishment of a Hajj Funds Management Agency (PKH).
"God willing, the House will soon finalize the law on PKH in its current term so that misuse of hajj funds, as has happened, would not be repeated," Ali Maschan Moesa, a member of the House of Representatives' (DPR's) Commission VIII on religious affairs, said here on Tuesday.
Moesa, who is a member of the National Awakening Party Faction (FKB) of the House, said that the management of hajj funds will be carried out based on the agency's account, not on the account of the minister of religious affairs, for transparency.
"In the future, this could lead to the establishment of a Bank of Hajj, but we have not thought about it yet, because the most important thing is a transparent Hajj fund management where the hajj cost paid by would-be pilgrims will be managed by a special body supervised by the Financial Service Authority (OJK), the House of Representatives and so on," he added.
In addition, the funds deposited by pilgrims over the years will continue to be in accounts in the name of the agency and of the pilgrims concerned, so that if any benefit is derived from the deposited money, it would be returned to the account holders.
"Moreover, the accounts are scattered in a number of banks that will be 'online' with the PKH Agency, so everything will be completely transparent. Therefore, we will issue the law on hajj funds management so that the agency is formed immediately. Muslim scholars also support it and many have provided inputs for the formulation of the agency," Moesa said.
