REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MADRID - Spain Monday condemned the Israeli government's decision to seize hundreds of acres of Palestinian lands in the West Bank, urging the Israeli authorities to reconsider this step.

The Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories were illegal in line with the international law, and would affect the geographic structure of the Palestinian state and peace in general, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The Israeli decision yesterday to expropriate 988 acres, or 400 hectares, of Palestinian land around Bethlehem, was adopted at a time Israeli-Palestinian relations were at low ebb, it said. All parties should refrain from any action that would hamper the peace process.
