REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu is offering a one-stop service to issue film-making licenses and permits to all domestic and overseas filmmakers to produce their work in Indonesia.
"We invite all filmmakers to produce their movies in Indonesia as we have everything, from Jurassic setting to metropolitan locations, like Jakarta," Mari noted here on Wednesday (Aug. 27).
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is cooperating with related ministries, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to facilitate international moviemakers in producing their movies in Indonesia.
Minister Mari proposed that whoever is keen to produce movies in Indonesia, especially overseas filmmakers, can contact the Indonesian Embassies to procure the required licenses and permits.
In each Indonesian embassy, there is a team that works under the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and other related ministries to arrange for visas for the film crew, permits for shooting at various locations, and other related immigration services.
"We have a coordinated team under our ministry to support this integrated service. We will facilitate the processing of visas, immigration, properties, and provide police security," she noted.
Mari is aware that occasionally, there are scenes in movies, which require supervision from the authorities, and the government of Indonesia is ready to facilitate it.
Through the incentives offered by the Indonesian government, Mari is optimistic that the set target of producing 2-3 international movies in Indonesia every year will be achieved.
"Last year, three big movies were made here and this figure does not include some movies with small production budgets. But, this year, we are still awaiting the launch of new film projects," she added.
