REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A total of 12 figures are proposed as National Heroes in 2014. They already qualified the administrative requirements.
"They are 12 out of 19 figures who qualified the administrative requirements," Director General of Social Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation in Ministry of Social Affairs, Hartono Laras said on Thursday in Jakarta.
The team have discussed the 12 names. According to Laras, the 19 figures come from various regions in Indonesia. There are 4-5 names, which were proposed from last year.
National Hero is a tittle given to Indonesian citizen who fought against colonialism or some one who performs heroic acts during his lifetime. Or, some one who has an outstanding achievement in working for development of nation and state.
The conferment of National Hero will be given before the Heroes Day on November 10. It must through tight selection process at honor council.
Local government proposals were selected by Ministry of Social Affairs through a research team at assessment center for administration selection. There are 159 national heroes today. In 2013, there are three new figures, namely KRT Radjiman Wedyodiningrat from Yogyakarta, LN Palar from North Sulawesi and TB Simatupang from North Sumatra.
