REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Finance Chatib Basri said that the issuance of new 100,000 rupiah note will be a momentum to strengthen currency in financial transaction in Indonesia. It will be a symbol to strengthen the sovereignty of Indonesia, as well as reinforce Rupiah as legal tender, as mandated by the Law on Currency.

"In many cases, people use foreign currency for majority transactions, including in official transaction. Let's use this momentum to make Rupiah controlling the national currency," Basri said recently.

By using Rupiah in various economic activities, Indonesian people will not use foreign currency from Sabang to Merauke. BI and government issued newly designed banknotes denominated in 100,000 for the year of 2014. It was launched on August 17, which coincided with the 69th anniversary of Republic of Indonesia.
