REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesians living in Wellington, New Zealand, enthusiastically celebrated the National Day which falls on Sunday, August 17, despite freezing temperature due to winter, a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Wellington said.
There are about 5,000 Indonesians living in various parts of New Zealand, 500 of whom are residing in Wellington.
The National Day celebration on Sunday started with flag raising ceremony held at the embassy in Wellington. The ceremony was led by Indonesian Ambassador to New Zealand Jose Tavares.
After the ceremony, there were various activities held such as Indonesian culinary bazaar and choir singing Indonesian famous songs such as Halo-Halo Bandung, Gambang Suling and Syukur. Another fun activities such as drawing competition and putting a pen in a bottle were held for children.
