REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- Director of One Stop Services and Public Relation in BP Batam, Dwi Djoko Wiwoho said on Friday that Singapore Airlines was interested to build a maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) facility at Hang Nadim International Airport. The regional owned enterprise basically has agreed and allocated 19 hectares of land for this project.
The Singapore based airline can occupy land previously used by Garuda Maintenance Facility (GMF) for MRO facility.
"Singapore Airlines possibly uses lands that was allocated to GMF. There is still no confirmation from Garuda to continue its plan," Wiwoho said.
The MRO plan with Singapore Airlines is not yet talking about the investment value. However, BP Batam has allocated lands for airport area.
Another domestic airlines company, Lion Group has developed the first MRO at Hang Nadim International Airport. Two MRO facilities are ready to repair their aircrafts. Lion Group is building 16 hectares of lands until 2016.
