REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Friday expected the new government to continue and made a lot of progress in legal reforms, so that Indonesian people could get legal certainty and justice. The legal reforms must be the top priority in future.

"I expect this agenda to be the top priority in future," Yudhoyono said in his official speech at parliament building in Jakarta on Friday.

In the era of reform, the law looks like a commander. None of citizens who are beyond the law or above the law and no one has the right to vigilante acts. Yudhoyono said that there was no indiscriminate actions to those who committed criminal acts of corruption.

Yudhoyono hopes that law enforcement would be continued. He has signed 176 inspection letters for regional heads and officials suspected of corruption and other criminal actions. During 2004-2014, there are 277 state officials, both central and local government, executive, legislative and judicial branches involved in corruption and eradicated by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). It does not include cases handled by National Police and the Attorney.

According to Yudhoyono, it shows that corruption remains a major challenge in this country. It proves that we are able to arrest anyone who violates the law indiscriminately. It makes him optimistic to eradicate corruption.
