REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia has a high potential of tourism and creative economy, but it is still below Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. It requires the right strategy in improving and promoting national tourism to boost tourist arrivals, especially foreign tourists.

Chairman of Indonesian Tourism Promotion Board (BPPI) said that it was called the Quantum Leap of Indonesian Tourism, the new idea in tourism sector and creative economy.

"Tourism and creative economy must be a priority of national economic development," Sukamdani said recently in Jakarta.

First, development of human resources and local infrastructure. The human resources in tourism sector must be certified and have competences to assess products, services and management.

Second, more events and great sales. It will optimally increase promotion for foreign tourists to visit and travel to Indonesia. These events are not only held in Jakarta, but also other areas. The distribution is still concentrated in Java, Bali and Sumatra.

Third, strengthening seven themes of special interest tourism to 16 foreign potential markets, such as cultural tourism, health tourism, nature tourism, ecotourism, culinary and shopping, recreational sports and MICE tourism. With the three breakthroughs, Sukamdani is optimistic to reach 20 million foreign tourists in Indonesia until 2019.
