Minister: 2 million hectares of palm oil plantations in Riau without license

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU - Minister of Forestry, Zulkifli Hasan said that government would not issue new plantation permit in Riau since the area had reached four million hectare. Then there two million hectares of the total lands are without license. 

"The two million hectares of palm oil plantations are illegal because it does not obtain government permission," Hasan said on Wednesday.

The new palm oil plantation is considered threatening because it could spread to peat lands or conservation area of Tesso Nilo National Park. In the end, the expanded plantation could harm the ecosystem and environment. While land clearing by burning will cause a tremendous impact.

Ministry of Forestry praised Riau Police in law enforcement in forestry sector.
