REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The elected president, Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo said that fuel price increase should be conducted simultaneously and firmly, not partially like today. It could help government to save state budget.
"Government firmness must be followed by a mature calculation," Jokowi said recently as reported by Halimatus Sa'diyah.
According to him, fuel price increase policy should be through a mature calculation, considering the economic effect, social and politic. He disagreed if government restricted the fuel distribution in certain locations. It will not be effective and can easily tricked by unresponsible parties. People will look for fuel in other unrestricted locations.
"So, what is the difference?" Jokowi asked.
Government through Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) issued a policy to limit sales of subsidized fuel (diesel and gasoline) through circular letter No. 937/07/Ka BPH/2014 on July 24, 2014. The diesel will not be distributed in Jakarta in August 1, 2014.
On August 4, sales of subsidized fuel in certain areas in Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Bali will be limited at 08.00 AM to 06.00 PM local time. The certain areas focus on industry areas, mining, plantation and ports that are prone in its distribution abuse.
In the same time, the allocation of subsidized fuel for fishermen channeling institution will also be cut by 20 percent. It will be shifted to fishing vessels under 30 tonnes. On August 6, all gas stations in toll roads will not sell subsidized fuel, but only provide pertamax (non-subsidized fuel).
