REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Australian government stated that Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and former president Megawati Soekarnoputri were not the subject of the Securency proceedings. 

Earlier, Wikileaks cited both Indonesian prominent figures were among 17 people in Asia involving in securency case. It also said that Australian policy preventing the publication of such information, which in turn has raised big question mark. Yudhyono appealed Australian government to clarifiy the issue. 

"The Australian Government obtained suppression orders to prevent publication of information that could suggest the involvement in corruption of specific senior political figures in the region, whether in fact they were or not," according to a written statement sent by Australian Embassy in Jakarta to Republika on Thursday. "The Government considers that the suppression orders remain the best means for protecting the senior political figures from the risk of unwarranted innuendo."

Furthermore, the statement said, "This is a long-running, complicated case which names a large number of individuals.  The naming of such figures in the orders does not imply wrongdoing on their part.

The Government stresses that the Indonesian President and the former President are not the subject of the Securency proceedings."

"We take the breach of the suppression orders extremely seriously and we are referring it to the police," it said.
