REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MERAK -- The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Lebak, Banten, calls for support for president elect Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Jokowi has been declared victor in a democratic process held by the Election Commission (KPU), chairman for religious ruling (fatwa) of the Lebak MUI KH Baijuri said.
"We hope that Jokowi would be successful in improving the welfare of the people," Baijuri said here on Sunday.
The regency of Lebak in the province of Banten, is one of the poorest districts in the country.
A vast majority of votes in Banten were won by Jokowi's rival Prabowo Subianto in the July 9 presidential election.
KH Baijuri said Jokowi's victory that makes him the country's seventh president is a "divine decree from God."
A divine decree could not be changed by human and Islamic followers must accept Jokowi's victory, he said.
Jokowi and his running mate Jusuf Kalla won 53.15 percent or almost 71 million of the votes with Prabowo and his running mate Hatta Rajasa garnered only 62.58 million or 46.85 percent of the valid votes.
Baijuri said the election had been conducted fairly and transparent.
The Prabowo-Hatta camp, however, rejected the election as being massively rigged in favor of Jokowi-JK and accused the KPU of being unfair.
Prabowo-Hatta has brought its complaint to the Constitutional Court seeking to overturn the result of the election.
"I think it is right for Prabowo-Hatta to go to court to seek justice," Baijuri said.
Meanwhile, chairman of the Lebak legislative assembly Ade Suryana said he called on Prabowo to accept defeat.
Ade said he regretted that Prabowo had rejected the result of the election on alleged rigging .
