REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has called on President-elect Joko Widodo or Jokowi, to develop master plans and infrastructures, particularly in the Indonesian eastern regions.
Kadin Deputy Chairman for Eastern Region Annar Salahuddin Sampetoding said in a written statement here on Wednesday that master plan was an important issue to be prepared soon in an effort to accelerate economic development in eastern Indonesian regions.
"The map of production forest, conversion forest and protected forest is not clear now. We hope there is a clear zone of economy so that businesses and investors can take correct steps in advancing economies in the eastern Indonesian regions," he said.
He said that forest is the main factor in deciding a master plan thus his side hoped that the government would arrange forest master plans first.
Forest master plans will be decisive for the drawing up of master plans for other sectors such as mining and agribusiness sectors.
The forestry sector constitutes a main economic source for the Indonesian eastern region.
"Forest is the upstream sector of all so that if the master plans for it is wrong then the master plans for all downstream sectors will also be wrong," the Kadin official said.
If the present conditions remain the same the economy in the eastern regions will grow slowly.
Annar also reminded the government of the importance of maintaining the balance of forest functions such as the protection function, social function and economic function.
