REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Boediono congratulated presidential elect Joko Widodo and vice presidential elect Jusuf Kalla.
"The vice president has just telephoned the two, congratulating them as president and vice president in the next five years," vice presidential spokesman Yopie Hidayat said here on Wednesday.
Boediono offered cooperation in preparing the process of transfer of power in October, 2014, Yopie said.
"This is the victory of the Indonesian people who have succeeded in carrying out general election smoothly and peacefully," he quoted the vice president as saying.
On Tuesday night here, the Election Commission determined Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla as president and vice president elect for the 2014-2019 period.
Joko Widodo, or Jokowi as the Jakarta governor is popularly known, and Jusuf Kalla, a former vice president, garnered 53.15 percent or 70,997,833 of the total valid votes defeating the pair of retired army Lt. general Prabowo Subianto and former coordinating minister for economy Hatta Rajasa.
There was an incident in the final process of recapitulation of the votes on Tuesday night when Prabowo rejected the process accusing the election commission of being unfair.
