REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SAMARINDA -- The Samarinda municipality administration has been collecting donations to help Palestinians who have become victims of the Israeli military aggression.

The Samarinda administration has sent letters to all officials and civil servants to donate cash for the Palestinians, Zulfakar, the secretary of Samarinda Municipality stated here on Thursday.

The funds will be presented to the National Committee for Palestinian People in East Kalimantan, he added.

The donations should be sent to the Samarinda administration's public welfare office by July 23, 2014, at the latest, Zulfakar remarked.

"Hopefully, we can help our brothers and sisters in Palestine. Hopefully, the donations given sincerely will be rewarded by Allah SWT," he added.

According to Dr Ashraf Al-Qadra, the Gaza Health Ministry spokesman, some 227 Palestinians, mostly civilians that include children and women, were killed, and 1,685 others injured during the Israeli aggression over the past eight days.

Indonesia, a staunch supporter of Palestinians in their struggle for independence, has been prompt in demonstrating its moral and financial support for Gaza residents, who are currently bearing the brunt of incessant air strikes launched by Israel.

Numerous street rallies against Israeli military attacks were organized in several Indonesian cities and condemnations were voiced by the Indonesian government and public.

As for concrete actions, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono recently announced that the government will donate US$1 million to the Palestinians.
