REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LOMBOK -- West Lombok Regent, Zaini Arony asked all hotels in the district to prepare Al-Quran in every room, including prayer room. It is because most of the guests are Muslims.

"We did not find any Al-Quran in hotels though majority of our population are Muslims," Arony said recently.

He said that local government would help hotels to provide the Holy Book as part of program 'Mushaf Al Quran Gumi Patuh Patut Patju,' Lombok's motto. Local government will print 10 thousand copies of Al-Quran this year. It will be distributed to hotels, Islamic boarding schools and public schools in West Lombok.

The Al-Quran will use gold ink as an effort to show the identity of West Lombok to community, particularly from outside region. The Holy Book described West Lombok symbols, such as 'cukli' craft, galangan flower and other motives.

According to Arony, Islam should be combined with local culture, so that Islam can be received by all people. The presence of Al-Quran with West Lombok symbols aimed to make Sasak community (local people) to adopt Al-Quran into daily life.

"This is our gift to West Lombok community," Arony said.

Beside providing Al-Quran, Arony asked all hotel managers to use the identity of West Lombok by displaying various ornaments. It has been implemented by several hotels in Senggigi tourism district, such as Aston Hotel.

"The local ornaments for example can be displayed in the waiting room," Arony said.
