REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- State-owned mining firm PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) is ready to export alumina products in August 2014 in line with bauxite ore processing plant commercial operation into chemical grade alumina in Tayan, West Kalimantan. President Director of Antam, Tato Mirza said that the factory had carried out commissioning production since a few months ago.
"About 200,000 out of 300,000 tonnes of total production will be exported to Japan," Mirza said recently.
One-third of production will be sold for domestic consumption, Southeast Asian countries, China, South Korea and Europe. Tayan project is a reflection of independent mining and mineral processing industry in Indonesia based on downstream commodity development.
According to Mirza, this factory abide government's ban on raw mineral export. Processing plant management in Tayan is led by PT Indonesia Chemical Alumina (ICA), a joint venture between PT Antam and Showa Denko, Japan. Antam owns 80 percent of shares through ICA, while Showa Denko 20 percent.
Plant construction reached 5 trillion IDR, which has been completed in April 11, 2011 with production capacity of 300,000 tonnes per year. The project funding comes from Antam internal funds, Showa Denko, Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and Mizuho Bank.
Alumina is raw material for manufacture of electronic products and other high-tech products, such as LCD screen, integrated circuit products and building material.
