REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- National flag carrier, PT Garuda Indonesia is ready to increase flight numbers from Makassar to favourite destinations ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
"We will increase flight numbers to Yogyakarta two times a day, while Surabaya to be three times a day," Sales and Service Area Manager of Garuda Indonesia in Sulawesi, Tubagus Irfan Farhan Fuadi said in Makassar recently.
Surabaya, Yogyakarta and Bali are three favourite destinations on Eid. The increase of passengers to the three cities reached 20-30 percent compared to normal season. Garuda Indonesia has also prepared a larger aircrafts. Surabaya flight for example will use Boeing 747-400 with capacity of 457 passengers.
According to Fuadi, company has coordinated with PT Pertamina and PT Angkasa Pura I Sultan Hasanuddin Airport to ensure good services. General Manager of Pertamina MOR VII Sulawesi, Budi Setio Hartono said that aircraft fuel consumption would rise by 6-10 percent ahead of Eid, but he was ready to meet the increase in avtur consumption.
General Manager of Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, Rachman Syafrie has also expressed his readiness in facing the passenger surge ahead of Eid. The highest passenger surge could reach 45 percent compared to normal season. This generally occurs in the H-2 Eid.
