REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said that monorail project was not match with Jakarta condition. The project construction cannot be in line with capital city development, which is so dynamic.

"Monorail system will not grow rapidly here. When the path faces new building, it could not be continued. Jakarta is so dynamic," Purnama said recently.

Monorail system uses permanent paths. It cannot be changed or added by new paths in future, while Jakarta always develops continuously. Jakarta provincial government and developers have many plans to build houses, flats or apartments. Provincial government can only issue the permit if any construction supports road infrastructures, such as Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and monorail.

The obstacles, if monorail track is completed, it will be difficult to connect with new paths. Therefore Purnama assessed that the ideal transportation systems in Jakarta were MRT and rail-based transportation. In category of short distance with small number of passengers, Jakarta is more suitable with Light Rail Transit (LRT) and double decker bus. However, the number is limited due to limited roads.
