REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MALANG -- Military observer, Muhadjir Efendi commented about Joko 'Widodo' Widodo's planning to buy three drones (unmanned aircrafts) if he got elected as the next president. He said that sea monitoring did not need unmanned aircrafts, but tanks and landing aircraft equipped with reconnaissance aircraft and fighter jet.

"We need a military tools for stalking, attacking and executing, such as the procurement of freighter and aircraft's runway equipped with reconnaissance aircraft and fighter jet that have the capability of short take off and vertical landing," Efendi said recently.

According to lecturer of Malang University, drones are not suitable to be used in territorial waters, but for ground attack. In third round presidential debate last week, Jokowi also said that Indonesian military did not need leopard tank. Efendi said that a leopard tank was very important to complete minimum essential forces.

"I feel so weird if Indonesia as a big country does not have main battle tank and the tank will not be used to go around the city," Efendi said referring to Jokowi's statement that a leopard tank could destroy bridges and roads.

When a leopard tank across the river, there would be a special military unit to build a bridge to shore up the bridge. The unit will build a special road as tank's path.
