REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto said there were people who were afraid if he won the upcoming presidential election on July 9, 2014.
"There are people who are afraid if Prabowo wins the elections. They are afraid of a clean government who will defend its own people," Prabowo said when campaigning in front of about 250 thousand supporters at the Bung Karno Sports Stadium here on Sunday.
He said that they were afraid of the government who would defend its own people. "They like a puppet government. Now I want to ask you, are you ready to be led by a puppet government?," Prabowo asked his supporters grouped in political alliance baking his nomination, mass organizations and laborers.
Prabowo said that there would be a competition in the elections to decide whether Indonesia would be led by a clean government, not a government controlled by others.
"We hope the next government would be the one which serves the interest of the Indonesian people, not a government which could be bribed, neither a government which would sell state assets," he said.
He said that some considered that Indonesian people were ignorant and could be cheated. "They said that village heads, subditrict heads, district heads, governors, ministers and generals are all could be bribed," he said.
This thing is a common responsibility. "You who humiliate and buy the Indonesian people, you who place a puppet (government) in Indonesia and you who want Indonesian people to remain poor. This time you can't," Prabowo stressed.
"We want the Indonesian people to stand with honor, we want to become a people who endure a good living and adequate income per month. We want Indonesian families to live with smiles and prosperity," he said.
In the meantime, Vice presidential candidate Hatta Rajasa on the occasion called on his supporters to conduct well-mannered campaigns.
"We should not be provoked by negative rumors and black campaigns. We should avoid these kinds of campaigns because they are not in accordance with the Indonesian people's personality," Hatta Rajasa who is the running mate of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, said.
He said that with hard work, God willing, the Prabowo-Hatta duo would win the upcoming presidential elections on July 9, 2014.
Hatta also expressed gratitude to the people of Indonesia for their participation in making the 2014 presidential election a success.
Currently, there are two presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs, Prabowo-Hatta Rajasa and Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla, who will contest in the July 9 presidential election.
The Prabowo-Hatta duo is supported by the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra), the Golkar Party, the National Mandate Party, the Prosperous Justice Party, the United Development Party (PPP), and the Crescent and Star Party (PBB) with 292 seats or 52.14 percent of the House of Representatives (DPR)'s 560 seats.
The Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla duo is supported by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the National Democrat Party (NasDem), the National Awakening Party (PKB), and the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) with 207 seats or 36.96 percent in the parliament.
