REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- Presidential candidate No. 2, Joko Widodo (known as Jokowi) said that Indonesian marine security would be tightened with the help of unmanned aircraft (drones). Jokowi will install three drones in the western, central and eastern region of Indonesia if he becomes the next president.

According to Jakarta governor, drone has a lot of functions, as the defence and air resistance, preventing illegal fishing, illegal logging and monitoring.

Drones can also be used to minimize the potential of forest fires. The three drones procurement will require budget of 4.5 trillion IDR.

"4.5 trillion IDR is not much compared to the losses of 300 trillion IDR per year due to illegal fishing," Jokowi said.

This is the best idea to tackle illegal fishing. For satellite support, Indonesia temporarily ride another country. However, when there is a good improvement, it is not impossible that Indonesia will have its own satellite.

Former Solo mayor said that Indonesia suffered losses of 300 trillion IDR per year in maritime sector, while the revenue was only 65 trillion IDR. In addition, about 1.4 trillion IDR of Indonesian tuna potential lost every year because of illegal fishing and black market.

To overcome this problem, Jokowi proposed four major ideas in maritime restoration to be implemented forward. First, to overcome the tuna problem and the utilization of exclusive economic zone. Second, to combat illegal fishing. Third, to optimize marine aquacultural expansion. Fourth, to encourage employment development in marine sector.

"Indonesian waters must bring benefits for all and this is our home work. If we could, we will record the revenue," Jokowi said recently as reported by C69.

Former Solo mayor will add the patrol ships to prevent illegal fishing and strengthen marine security. He will also focus on monitoring management.

To tackle black market of tuna, the construction of fish processing industry becomes one of solutions. Hence, government will open special area, prepare the land and make it easier for industrial licensing. He will also increase the fishing fleet through the development of modern fish market.
