REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) will prioritize efforts to win votes for presidential and vice presidential candidates Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa on Java Island for the July 9, 2014, presidential election, an official said.
"We have set the vote count target in all (33) provinces, with priority on Java Island because it is the most populous island," Gerindra deputy chairman Fadli Zon announced here on Saturday.
According to him, the national success team of the Prabowo-Hatta presidential ticket will target everyone, including other religious groups, in obtaining support for the Prabowo-Hatta pair.
"We will garner votes for Prabowo-Hatta from all intellectuals, from both lower and upper classes, and from other religious groups," Zon stated.
He also explained that the vision and mission of the Prabowo-Hatta duo, which has been submitted to the General Election Commission, should not be changed because it only presented a general outline.
"So there are no substantial points in the vision and mission," Zon remarked.
Earlier, Mahfud MD, former presidential candidate of the Nation Awakening Party (PKB), had formally accepted the offer to lead the national success team of the Prabowo-Hatta presidential ticket.
"Bismillahirrohmannirrohim (In the name of Allah, Most Gracious and Most Merciful), this afternoon, I declared the start of the fight for the victory of Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa," he said at a press conference here on Thursday.
Mahfud, who is also a former constitutional court chief justice, noted that he had carefully considered the decision beforehand.
