REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono installed Chairman of National Economic Committee (KEN), Chairul Tanjung as new Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs to replace Hatta Rajasa. Rajasa resigned last week to run presidential election with Prabowo Subianto of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party.
Tanjung will be a minister for the next five months. Yudhoyono led the swearing-in of the new coordinating minister at the State Palace on Monday.
The inaguration was attended by second United Indonesia Cabinet ministers, state officials also their spouses. Chairul Tanjung's appointment is based on Presidential Decree No. 41 P/ 2014.
The business tycoon confirmed that he had relinquished all his positions in each company that he ran after being formally appointed as the new minister. His decision was made to prevent any conflict of interest during fulfilling his ministerial post.
