REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BALIKPAPAN -- Indonesian Military (TNI) commander, Gen Moeldoko said that potential dispute in Natuna Islands would be larger than Ambalat, North Kalimantan. Natuna also shares a maritime border with Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Natuna contained a high oil and natural gas reserves. It located in the Natuna Sea between Peninsular Malaysia to the west and Kalimantan (Borneo) to the east.

"We tend to pay more attention to Natuna Islands because of the instability situation at South China Sea," Moeldoko said on Friday.

Natuna also connected major ports in the north, such as Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea to major ports in the south, such as Japan and Singapore.

Ambalat is located in northeastern of North Borneo. Indonesian and Malaysian military ever clashed at Karang Unarang waters due to Malaysian provocation regarding their claims to Sipadan and Ligitan Island, two exotic islands that bordered to the two countries, which were not far from Karang Unarang.
