REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Communication and Informatics Tifatul Sembiring said he had sent a letter for cooperation to several global online social networking services to eradicate porn related content in Indonesia, including Twitter and YouTube.
"YouTube has been willing to cooperate, meanwhile Twitter and Facebook are still in progress," he said after an ICT Award meeting in Depok, Monday as reported by C67
Recently, Tifatul has banned a video sharing service, Vimeo, because of its porn content. He noted that the step was related to implementation of laws about pornographic rule. Tifatul will end the ban if Vimeo had cooperated to block the content.
As it was reported, the ministry had directed internet service providers in Indonesia to ban Vimeo website. Warning letter has been sent to the company, but until now Vimeo had not made a respond yet.
The ban triggered criticisms. Most users criticized the ministry on why should the entire site be banned due the inappropriate content on specific channel.
"It's a democracy, but due to public interest, so it must be done," he said on a respond to the criticism.
