REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Communication and Informatics Tifatul Sembiring will draw international attention to the illegal spying issue during the Internet Governance Forum held on September 2-5, in Istanbul, Turkey.

"Illegal spying through the internet is something sad. It feels like a neighbor making a small hole in our wall and trying to find out every little secret we have in our house. This attitude makes us suspicious all the time towards others," Tifatul noted in a press statement received by Antara here on Tuesday.

The minister supported the use of internet if it utilized in a productive manner such as for building a stronger economy.

"But, the productive use of internet must also be in line with the local culture and regulations implemented in the country," Tifatul pointed out.

The minister cited the example of Indonesia, which is now developing the Healthy Internet policy where it is using the Trust+ application that can filter and block websites containing porn and other unwanted contents for Indonesian users.

The Internet Governance Forum held in Istanbul is themed "Connecting Continents for Enhanced Multi-Stakeholder Internet Governance."
