REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- State owned shipping firm, PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Pelni) will increase the ticket price up to 20 percent in May 15, 2014. The company is expected to add two more subsidized ships to be 20 units this year.
"Economy class passenger still gets the public service obligation (PSO) or subsidized price," Director of Pelni, Syahril Japarin said in Jakarta recently.
Pelni also seeks to increase revenue by 10 percent, from 2.4 trillion IDR in 2013 to 3.4 trillion IDR in 2014. Ticket sales contributed 70 percent of revenue from economy class.
Pelni now has operated 25 ships to 95 ports in Indonesia. This increase made the ticket price of short-sea shipping service, from Tanjung Priok to Belawan rising from 346 thousand IDR to 408 thousand IDR. The long-sea shipping service, especially Ambon and Pantoloan also increased, from 314 thousand IDR and 501 thousand IDR.
The economic tariff rates increased based on Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 16/ 2014. He promised that the tariff scheme will be followed by the improvement of all ports and embarkation system.
