REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANARU -- Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla is scheduled to visit Riau Province early next week to meet Governor Annas Maamun for the installation of new managers for the Riau branch of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).
"Jusuf Kalla, the PMI chairman, will visit Riau early next week to install PMI new managers, Riau PMI Chairman Syahril Abubakar said on Saturday.
Syahril Abubakar, elected Riau PMI chairman for 2014-2019, said the visit to Riau by Jusuf Kalla is only to participate in Red Cross business and has nothing to do with politics.
Meanwhile, Kalla said in Semarang, Central Java on Saturday, that Central Java contributed 10 percent of the nation's blood supply of 5 million bags per year.
"The nation's blood demand is around 5 million bags per year, 10 percent of which comes from Central Java," Kalla said in Semarang.
The PMI chairman and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo began the blood donor movement with the involvement of 3,500 young people from high school and universities, as well as volunteers.
Kalla noted that the blood supply collected from Central Java was around 500,000 bags per year to meet some 10 percent of the nation's blood supply.
He said he greatly appreciated the blood donor movement that attracted thousands of young people to donate blood through the Indonesian Red Cross.
"Participated in by 3,500 young blood donors, it is the largest movement that I have ever attended, because we can collect around 2,500 to 3,000 blood bags," Kalla said.
Further, he noted that the national blood demand has been met by the donations from all regions across the country, and there was no need to worry about blood shortages.
"There is no problem with the national blood supply because it has been met from the supply from all regions, and therefore we are ready to meet blood demands during the fasting month and even in disasters," he noted.
