REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Government is optimistic to grow 15 million hectares of industrial forest concessions (HTI) supported by concession owners including Asian Pulp and Paper (APP) dan Asia Pasific Resources International Holding (APRIL).

APP, one of the world's biggest forestry company, has pledge to restore one million hectares forest and wildlife conservation. While APRIL as Asia's second-largest pulp and paper manufacturer has restored 250 thousand hectares out of 450 thousand hectares forest.

"Such efforts will create new market for environmental, carbon, and biodiversity services," Secretary General of Ministry of Forestry, Hadi Daryanto, said recently.

Currently only Indonesia has 9 million hectares from target of 15 million hectares of HTI. Industrial sectors can utilize 23 million hectares of open access area. Hence, Daryanto expects all stakeholders and other companies to participate more actively to achieve the target.

APP's managing director, Aida Greenbury said that restoration process must comply with conservation regulation. The company has set up a trust fund to finance the conservation project and cooperated with NGOs engaged in environmental issues. One of the areas prepared for the wildlife conservation is a habitat of sumatran tiger, sumatran elephant, and orangutan in Bukit Tiga Puluh in Jambi.
