REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Central Board of Gerindra party committed to put 30 percent of female candidates in its cabinet if the party winning the presidential election this year. Gerindra's chairman, Suhardi said that the party would put female candidates in ministerial seats and government officials, as well as encourage more strategic position for women in local government.

"We appreciate the Kartini's struggle in realizing gender equality and enhancing woman's role," Suhardi said recently.

According to him, Kartini is a hero fighting for gender equality and it is still relevant to current conditions. Women's roles throughout the world are increasing very rapidly, including in government official position. However, many gaps are still going on in other sectors.

One of important factors to improve woman's quality is the existence of gender-sensitive public policy. Suhardi said that woman should actively participate in political activities and public policies. It is not only representated in legislature, but also in policy maker or ministerial level, followed by provincial, district and city.
