REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Bank Indonesia (BI) disallowed the electronic money (e-money) issuer to form an exclusive cooperation. Especially for issuers that are already cooperating can continue the agreement until the contract expires. Executive Director of the Payment System Policy and Oversight Department at BI, Rosmaya Hadi explained that this rule was implemented since April 8, 2014.
"We ban the exclusive cooperation in public places, including toll roads, gas station and public transportation," Hadi said recently.
The issuers that have obtained permission can only work together with other issuers, which have obtained permission from BI. However, the issuers can work together with other parties in aspect of e-money activities.
Several banks have exclusive cooperation's, such as PT Bank Mandiri with PT Jasa Marga in developing toll road payment transaction using e-Toll card. This contract expires in 2018.
