BCA sets conservative target for credit cards in election year

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- It has been two years after Bank Indonesia (BI) implementing regulation of credit card ownership. It made a decline in credit card growth. General Manager of Credit Card in Bank Central Asia (BCA), Santoso said that credit growth would not different from last year.

"The growth tends to go down this year," Santoso said recently as reported by Friska Yolandha.

Banking sector is still adjusting the new provision of credit card as they have to introduce new rule to old customers. The acquisition of new customers is not expected to be increase significantly.

Credit card growth in 2013 reached only one percent. BCA seeks credit card business to grow in spite of it will not be able to reach five percent. In political situation this year, Santoso hopes the company can support the business. Purchasing power of people is expected to rise. However, company does not expect any significant growth in this election year.

BCA has issued 2.456 million credit cards per December 2013 and increased to 2.5 million credit cards per February 2014. Transaction volume will be stable at 15-20 percent in 2014. In the first quarter of the year, the volume will not be too high as it usually happens in second quarter due to a lot of activities, such as holidays. BCA will keep the ratio of non-performing loan (NPL) on credit card under five percent. The NPL stood at 1.46 percent in 2013.
